We never realized that there was a jewelry collection at The Future Perfect until today. A few of the accessories were a little on the strange side, like the Crayon Rings ($50 from Timothy Liles), but these bracelets really caught our eye.

This is no April Fool’s gag. It’s the real deal. Beginning tomorrow, a San Francisco hotel (two of them actually) will offer one guest room for $1 per night for each night in the month of April. The offer is from the Orchard Hotel Group, owners of two "green" boutique hotels on Bush Street - one near Chinatown and the other closer to Union Square.

With the pound sterling continuing its two-year decline against the U.S. dollar, the number of British tourists to New York City is likely on the decline. And after "Bedbug Cases on the Rise in NY" was published last Friday on the BBC Web site, you can bet that more folks will reconsider taking a vacation in the Big Apple.

Amount of Btu, or British thermal units, the federal government has saved since 2003 as part of its efforts to increase the energy efficiency of its buildings nationwide. According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, the U.S government has saved $400 million annually over the past five-plus years. (The chart shows the decrease in Btu used per gross square foot in federal buildings.)

Last year, the Pennsylvania Legislature passed the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act as a way to help state residents avoid problems with shady home-improvement contractors as well as to impose criminal penalties on pros who commit fraud. The law goes into effect on July 1.

Level to which the Red River around Fargo, North Dakota, is expected to rise today, resulting in flooding that could force 30,000 people to evacuate their homes. If the river reaches that level, it will be the highest in 112 years. The federal government has declared 34 counties and two
