By the Numbers: Office computers can be a (literal) drain on the bottom line

Office Computers Waste EnergyAmount of money American companies are spending every year to power computers that are not shut down at the end of the workday, according to the "2009 PC Energy Report" by energy-management- software company 1E and the Alliance to Save Energy. All that extra electricity results in the creation of almost 20 million tons of greenhouse gases, equivalent to what 4 millions cars produce in a year, says the report. The findings also indicate that nearly half of the 108 million office-place computers in the U.S. aren't properly turned off every day; each computer left on would cost its company almost $52 a year.
