There are two noteworthy celeb collabo collections that caught our attention today, and we have to say, we approve of both (celebrities that is)! First, WWD reported this morning that model turned actor and as of late, turned designer, Amber Valletta, is collabo’ing with one of our favorite L.A.-based contemporary brands, Monrow, to design her own collection of casual-cool sportswear! The blonde beauty apparently met the Monrow team through mutual friends, and voila, she’s on board! The collection has been dubbed Amber Valletta for Monrow (creative), and the first offerings to come from it will be tissue-thin layering tees and tanks, day dresses, a romper (sigh… only stick-thin women her size can wear such a style), tailored
blazers and a fringed cape in a navy, cream, black, light gray and pale
blush palette. Sounds interesting! Also, Amber has vowed that she wants the offerings to be affordable, so cross your fingers girls! We’re assuming pricing will stay in the ranges of Monrow’s regular pieces, which usually fall around $60 to $180.

Bravo’s new fashion show… The Fashion Show had its finale last night, and although it doesn’t seem to have quite the following of its former ratings darling Project Runway, Isaac Mizrahi does a decent job giving the show some life, and a two hour reunion special for the finale probably didn’t hurt either! In the end, Dolve Vita head clothing designer and design school grad Anna took home the $125K for her “To Die For” collection, and we have to say she was our favorite, too!

29.2 percent
Year-over-year percentage decline in shipments of major appliances for June 2009, according to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. Vendors shipped about 5.7 million units in June 2009, down from 8 million units a year earlier. Air conditioners were especially hard hit, with annualized shipments sinking 60 percent. The cool, wet late spring/early summer hurt AC sales, but even where the mercury rose, many homeowners decided to forgo air conditioning to save on energy costs, according to this recent article in The New York Times.

Well, I knew it wouldn’t take long. Continental made the call three days ago to increase their checked baggage fees by $5 = $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second. Today, American Airlines said they will do the same. United, Delta and US Airways already announced they would be pocketing an extra 5 bucks from those who still check their bags. So now everyone is in sync. But here’s the good news: Southwest still flying your bags for free. For now.
