Cash for appliance program has almost run its course

Appliances Fourteen months after launching with $300 million in funding, the Department of Energy's State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programbetter known as the cash for appliances programis down to just over $19 million in 10 states and the District of Columbia. Part of the Recovery Act of 2009, the program allocated roughly $1 for each resident of the U.S. and divided it up state by state.

But if the color of your house and roof are mismatched, you may lose more than your cool factor. You can lose some serious value in your home as well, according to designer Kate Smith, the resident color expert for DaVinci Roofscapes. While a black outfit is often a safe bet, a black roof on a single-story home can make it appear smaller.

Southwest suspends flights at BWI for this evening

A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines says the majority of flights to/from BWI-Marshall (and Philadelphia) have been canceled for the rest of this evening. Passengers holding reservations for travel to/from BWI can reschedule their flight without penalty. Passengers who did not purchase their ticket via southwest.com, can call 1-800-435-9792 to rebook their flight in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of the original date of travel between the original city-pairs) without paying any additional charge. If your flight has been cancelled, you may also request a refund by calling 800-435-9792.

Winter not about to loosen its icy grip

Ice_Storm_NOAA Another nor'easter is coming tomorrow, threatening to dump more snow on a winter-weary swath of the Northeast. Since the beginning of December, temperatures have averaged below normal from Boston to Chicago, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Atlanta and even Miami, according to AccuWeather. Snow has fallen in every state except Florida and both AccuWeather and the National Weather Service say it won't be warming up anytime soon.
